A Coding Assistant for ‣.

Development History #ai

Aider was created by Paul Gauthier in 2023 as a command-line AI coding assistant that integrates directly with Git repositories. Originally designed to work with GPT-4, the project started under the GitHub repository paul-gauthier/aider.

The project later transitioned to the Aider-AI organization and expanded beyond its original GPT-4 foundation to support multiple LLM providers including Claude, DeepSeek, and local models. Aider has gained recognition for achieving one of the top scores on the SWE-Bench, a challenging software engineering benchmark that tests AI systems on real GitHub issues from popular open source projects.

The tool has seen rapid development with frequent releases, continuously improving its code editing capabilities, Git integration, and support for new language models as they become available.
